Bybit Leverage Trading: What the Multiplier Actually Does to Your Risk

Leverage on Bybit doesn't just multiply your position size — it pulls your liquidation price closer to the entry price, and the exchange's own leverage cap makes that easy to forget.

What Leverage Actually Multiplies

Leverage lets you open a position larger than your margin alone would support by borrowing the rest. It scales both your potential profit and your potential loss by the same multiplier, and it moves your liquidation price proportionally closer to your entry.

Leverage Limits on Bybit

Bybit allows up to 100x on major USDT perpetuals, with inverse contracts sometimes capped differently — the exact cap is shown on the contract page. Higher leverage tiers usually come with lower maximum position sizes, since the exchange caps risk per bracket.

Leverage and Fees Together

Higher leverage does not change the fee rate itself — Bybit still charges the same maker/taker percentage on the full position notional, not just your margin. A larger leveraged position therefore pays a larger absolute fee even though the percentage stays the same.

A Sizing Approach That Works Better

Pick your stop-loss distance first, then work backward to the leverage and position size that keeps your loss at that stop within an amount you've already decided you can accept — rather than picking leverage first and hoping the stop fits.

  • Decide the dollar risk before opening the position
  • Work leverage backward from the stop distance
  • Recheck the liquidation price after any size change
