A trend line connects swing lows in uptrend or swing highs in downtrend.
It visualizes the angle of control — not a physical barrier.
- Ascending line under rising lows
- Descending line over falling highs
- Line is zone — price can pierce wick and hold
- Log vs linear scale changes line on same data
Drawing Rules That Hold Up
Use at least two clear touches — three strengthens idea.
Do not force line through every wick to look pretty.
- Anchor on bodies or wicks — pick one method and keep it
- Ignore outlier spike wick that distorts angle
- Higher TF line matters more than 1m scribble
- Redraw when structure breaks — old line may be dead
Trading Touches in Trend
Trend traders buy ascending line touches in uptrend.
Sell descending line touches in downtrend.
- Confluence with horizontal level strengthens touch
- Volume on bounce helps validation
- Parallel channel — opposite line caps target
- Stop beyond line — not tight inside noise
Breaks and Closes
Wick through line is warning. Close beyond line is stronger break signal.
- Two consecutive closes beyond — stricter rule
- Break on volume beats thin drift through
- Broken support may become resistance on retest
- False break — quick reclaim — traps breakout traders
Retest Entry vs Breakout Chase
Retest after break often offers better R:R than first impulse.
Chase pays spread and taker on extended candle.
- Wait return to broken line when possible
- Limit order at retest — maker fee advantage
- Missed retest — skip rather than FOMO market
- Model slippage on fast alt breaks
Trend Lines on Different Pairs
BTC lines differ from low-cap alt lines in reliability.
- BTC diagonal respects longer — more participants
- Thin alt lines break on single whale print
- Compare fee tier if routing to deeper BTC book for hedge
- Same chart tool — consistent drawing habit
