It answers what the average participant paid today weighted by size.

- Rising VWAP — buyers paying up on average
- Falling VWAP — sellers accepting lower on average
- Perp VWAP uses contract volume — aligns with tape
Intraday Bias Above or Below
Price above VWAP — session bias often called bullish.
Price below — bearish intraday context.
- Long bias — pullbacks to VWAP hold in strong session
- Short bias — rallies to VWAP reject in weak session
- Chop crosses VWAP both ways — reduce size
- Frequent VWAP crosses — fee bleed on scalps

Second and third tests may weaken.

- Position trades — fewer entries — fees less dominant

- Trend day — bands walk — do not fade
- Band touch targets small — fees matter
- Verify band settings match your platform math
Crypto VWAP Caveats
Twenty-four-hour market — define session start explicitly.
Global liquidity shifts — Asia vs US volume changes VWAP slope.
- Use UTC or exchange session — stay consistent
- Weekend thin volume — VWAP less representative
- Large single print moves VWAP — watch tape
- Route size to deep book — slippage beats fee savings
