Check for an expired session, a password mistake, or a temporary hold triggered by unusual login activity before assuming full recovery is needed.
Phase Two: Lost 2FA
Use saved backup codes if available. Without them, identity-based recovery through support is required.
Phase Three: Lost Email
Recover your email account first if possible, since it's the anchor for most password resets. If not, expect a longer identity verification process.
Phase Four: Providing Documentation
Support will typically ask for a current government ID, a live selfie, and account history details to confirm ownership.
Phase Five: Waiting It Out
Recovery deliberately takes longer than routine support requests — that friction exists to protect the account from attackers, not to slow down legitimate users unnecessarily.
Avoiding Recovery Scams
Only use the official support channel. Anyone contacting you first offering to speed up recovery is not legitimate.
After You're Back In
Set up fresh 2FA, store new backup codes offline, and review your account's recent activity carefully.
A Note on Patience During Review
It's tempting to submit multiple recovery requests in a row hoping one gets picked up faster, but that usually has the opposite effect — each new submission can reset your position in the queue rather than skip ahead of it. Submit once, with complete and accurate documentation, and wait for a response before trying again.
Keeping Recovery Options Current Going Forward
Once you're back in, review whether your registered email and phone number are both still accurate and accessible to you. Outdated recovery contact details are one of the most common reasons a future lockout takes longer to resolve than it needs to.
