Deleting an OKX Exchange Account vs Abandoning a Wallet

These are two very different processes on OKX — closing the custodial exchange account is a support request; the wallet is simply software you stop using.

Two Different Products, Two Different Processes

Closing the custodial exchange account is a formal process involving support and identity confirmation. The self-custody OKX Wallet has no 'account' to close on OKX's end — it's software holding your keys, and you simply stop using it (after securing or moving your funds first).

Closing the Exchange Account: Step 1

Close any open positions and cancel pending orders across the unified trading account before requesting closure.

Closing the Exchange Account: Step 2

Withdraw all remaining balances to a wallet you control, confirming the correct network for each asset first.

Closing the Exchange Account: Step 3

Resolve any pending support tickets or verification reviews, then submit the closure request through account settings or by contacting support directly.

'Deleting' the Wallet

For OKX Wallet, first move any funds out to another wallet you control, then simply remove the wallet app or extension from your device. There's no account for OKX to delete on its end since it never held your keys.

Removing the app doesn't destroy the wallet itself in any permanent sense — if you kept the seed phrase, the same wallet could technically be restored elsewhere later. If that's not what you want, securely destroying the seed phrase backup is the actual last step, not just uninstalling the app.

Data Retention

For the exchange account, certain transaction records are typically retained for a regulatory-defined period after closure, regardless of your request.

Reopening Later

Re-registration policies for the exchange account after closure can vary and change over time. A new wallet, by contrast, can be created at any time since it isn't tied to an account at all.
