Two Very Different Recovery Situations

Losing access to your custodial exchange account is recoverable through support, since OKX holds custody and can verify your identity. Losing your OKX Wallet seed phrase is not recoverable by anyone, including OKX, because it's self-custody and no one else holds a copy of your keys.

Use backup codes if you saved them. Without them, you'll need identity-based recovery through official support.

Try recovering your email account first. If that's not possible, expect a more thorough identity verification process.

What Support Will Ask For

A current government ID, a live selfie, and account history details to confirm you're the rightful owner of the exchange account.

Why the Wallet Seed Phrase Is Different

There's no support ticket that restores a lost seed phrase, because OKX never has a copy of it in the first place. The only real protection is having backed it up securely before you needed it — after the fact, there's no recovery path.

This is the fundamental tradeoff of self-custody: nobody can freeze or seize the wallet on your behalf, but nobody can rescue it for you either. Both properties come from the same design choice.

Avoiding Recovery Scams

For the exchange account, use only official support channels. For the wallet, be aware that anyone asking for your seed phrase to 'help recover' your wallet is attempting a scam — legitimate support never needs it.

After Recovery

Set up fresh 2FA on the exchange account and, if you're setting up a new wallet, back up the new seed phrase properly this time before you need it again.
