OKX Age Requirement: The Exchange Account's Rule (the Wallet Has None)

The exchange side of OKX enforces a standard age requirement checked at KYC. The self-custody wallet, having no identity check, doesn't work the same way.

The Exchange Account's Rule

The custodial OKX exchange account requires users to be at least the legal age of majority, generally 18, consistent with standard financial regulation.

How Age Is Verified

Date of birth is checked against your government ID during standard identity verification, the same process required to unlock full exchange features.

Why the Wallet Is Different

OKX Wallet is self-custody software with no identity verification requirement built in, since it doesn't hold your funds on your behalf — that's a structurally different product from the custodial exchange account, and age enforcement mechanisms don't apply the same way.

If a Minor's Exchange Account Is Found

The account is typically restricted, and resolving any balance follows a formal process generally involving a parent or legal guardian.

No Guardian-Managed Exchange Accounts

There's no supported structure for a parent to hold or manage the custodial exchange account on a minor's behalf — it must belong to the verified adult.

If You're Not Yet Eligible

Wait until you meet the legal age requirement before opening the exchange account. There's no compliant way around this rule.

Learning Web3 Concepts in the Meantime

If the appeal is more about exploring Web3 and on-chain applications than about trading on the exchange, that's a separate interest you can pursue through educational resources without needing a custodial account at all — the exchange's age requirement specifically governs the custodial side, not general knowledge about how blockchains work.

Just be aware that even self-custody wallet software typically comes with its own terms of use that assume an adult user, so this isn't a way to bypass the underlying legal principle either — it's simply a lower-stakes way to learn the concepts first.
